Cloud storage sync clients like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive use macOS FileProvider extensions. While helpful, their sync engines often fail to release local cached disk space after files are streamed or uploaded.
Hidden inside ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS and ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac, you can often find 20GB to 40GB of stale sync chunks and unevicted video buffers that Finder's normal storage bar never explains.
